We loved Varkala so much we went back and decided to take the train instead of hiring a driver. Our last experience going by train almost traumatized us so we were unsure about it. However, we did great and had the entire section by ourselves. In Varkala all we did is lay on the beach, drink beers, get a massage, eat and shop. It was wonderful.
